Punch-Out!! is a popular boxing video game series made by Nintendo. The series started with Punch-Out!! in the arcade, and became famous with the NES game, Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!. Recently, a sequel was released for Wii, resulting in much rejoicing.
Plot
Little Mac is a boxer who is incredibly short. He went to 200 trainers and was rejected 200 times, until he met Doc Louis. With Doc, Mac joins the World Video Boxing Association and fights to be the champion.
The Games
- Punch-Out!! (arcade, 1984)
- Boxing (Micro Vs. System/Game & Watch, 1984)
- Arm Wrestling (A spin-off with a Bald Bull cameo (As Mask X), arcade, 1985)
- Super Punch-Out!! (arcade, 1985)
- Punch-Out!! (Famicom, 1987, the Japanese-only game that was released in a gold color as a prize for winners in a golf tournament; about 10,000 were released and it costs 25,000 yen nowadays)
- Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! (NES, 1987, the most popular version of Punch-Out!! before the Nintendo Wii's version was announced; also, it obviously features Mike Tyson as the last boss in this game)
- Punch-Out!! (Mirco Vs. System/Game & Watch, 1988/1990, Was re-released to promote the release of Punch-Out!! - Featuring Mr. Dream)
- Punch-Out!! - Featuring Mr. Dream (NES, 1990; Virtual Console, 2007, a reprint of MTPO replacing the immensly popular Mike Tyson with a fictional champion named Mr. Dream; is also a heavy-hitter for the Virtual Console despite having no Mike Tyson involved and having a few dialogue changes; can also be playable as a rare NES game that you could get in Animal Crossing for the Nintendo Gamecube)
- Super Punch-Out!! (SNES, 1994/1996; Virtual Console, 2009; can also be playable in the Nintendo Gamecube's version of EA's Fight Night Round 2)
- Punch-Out!! (Wii, 2009)
- Doc Louis's Punch-Out!! (WiiWare [For Platinum Members of Club Nintendo Only], 2009, Is basically a three-part demo of the Nintendo Wii's Punch-Out!!... BUT IT HAS DOC LOUIS AS A BOXER!!!)
Characters
- Little Mac - The main character for every game... minus the arcade games (He's known as "The Challenger" in those games.).
- Doc Louis - Little Mac's special trainer. He LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVES chocolate bars. Also, he invented the Star Punch!!!
- Giga Mac - A form of Little Mac that wants to be free from Little Mac once again. He can only be seen in versus mode of the Nintendo Wii's version of Punch-Out!! as a beast. He is basically what Little Mac would be like if he was on steroids.
- Glass Joe - He's the worst fighter ever.
- Disco Kid - He's a little bit better, but it's still easy to beat the guy who's name speaks for itself.
- Von Kaiser - He's slightly better than Glass Joe and Disco Kid, but it's still easy to beat him, despite him being the boxing trainer for German children that go to the military. GIVE HIM ZE UPPERCUT, MAC!! ZE UPPERCUT!!!
- King Hippo - Now this guy knows how to ramp up the difficulty. Punch his mouth when it's open, then punch his belly!
- Piston Honda/Piston Hondo - A Japanese man who loves honour and other ancient Japanese stuff like that.
- Bear Hugger - He likes raw fish.
- Don Flamenco - Hey! Mr. Referee Mario... I like your hair! Carmen, mi amor!!
- Great Tiger - How anyone gets away with teleporting or, hell, any type of magic in the ring is beyond me.
- Bald Bull - A bald man who thinks he's a bull and apparently has a body made of steel... minus his balls. At least, for now...
- Aran Ryan - He started out perfectly sane, willing to play by the rules... and look at him now. Eh, at least he still has that fighting spirit of his.
- Vodka Drunkenski/Soda Popinski - That's soda, not vodka or any type of alcohol. Really!
- Super Macho Man - Release The Bogus!! GAH MY EYES!!!
- Mr. Sandman - Hey Mac Baby... brush your teeth?... IT'S BED TIME!!
- Referee Mario - Don't you have a fat turtle you need to kill or...
- Donkey Kong - Don't you have a fat plumber you need to kill or...
- Mike Tyson - The champion of Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! He's also the only real-life person who made an appearance in this series.
- Mr. Dream - The champion from Dreamland who replaced Mike Tyson in a later version of Punch-Out!! for the NES as seen above in the games section. He's been considered by many to be a
fagdork and a loser when compared to Mike Tyson. - The (Normal) Referee - He's just here for the Nintendo Wii. Just move along unless you actually want to see what his article's like.
- Dragon Chan - A Bruce Lee and partial Jackie Chan knock-off who kicks... in boxing. Boy, oh boy, would Aran Ryan be proud, even though they were both in Super Punch-Out!! for the SNES.
- Gabby Jay - A 56 year old man who was trained by Glass Joe... Yeah, this won't end well at all. C'mon!! C'mon!! Yay!!!
- Bob Charlie - A Jamaican musician/boxer who is not named after a certain real-life Jamaican musician.
- Heike Kagero - A flaming homosexual from Japan that apparently trains under Great Tiger. He can also use his hair to attack for him sometimes.
- Hoy Quarlow - A 76 year old Chinese old master stereotype who uses a cane to fight. Why he's here in the ring, I'll never know.
- Narcis Prince - A laughably weak yet incredibly narcissistic boxer from Great Britain that gets pissed-off if you hit him in the face.
- Masked Muscle - A Mexican wrestler with cheating tendencies. They sure do have a lot of cheaters in this series, I'll tell you what.
- Mad Clown - An Italian Bear Hugger palette-swap who likes pies instead of raw fish. Also, beware when he's juggling his balls around.
- Rick Bruiser - A bald, generally happy man. Also, Nick's younger brother.
- Nick Bruiser - A bald, generally stoic man who hates losing. Also, Rick's older brother. I almost forgot to mention that he steals some other people's moves and makes them his own, such as Bald Bull's Bull Charge.
- Pizza Pasta - One of the two boxers from the first ever Punch-Out!! game that would get lost in the analmoties of time.
- Kid Quick - The other one of two boxers from the first ever Punch-Out!! game that would also get lost in the analmoties of time. Also, he might be related to Disco Kid.
- Piston Hurricane - A guy from the first Punch-Out!! arcade game that somehow found his way into Super Punch-Out!! for the SNES.
- Invisible Referee (SNES's Super Punch-Out!!) - FIGHT! ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR, FIVE, SIX, SEVEN, EIGHT, NINE, TEN!! KNOCK OUT! By the way, he's also voiced by Charles Martinet.
- Invisible Referee (Arcade's Punch-Out!! & Super Punch-Out!!) - He likes talking about what plays "The Challenger" is doing, counting really fast, and saying "KNOCK OUT!! GREAT FIGHTING, FOR AN UP-AND-COMING BOXER!"
Arm Wrestling Characters
- Texas Mac - A cowboy from Texas who loves rodeos.
- Kabuki - A sumo wrestler who's also is an arm wrestler in his spare time. He's also a long-lost cousin of E. Honda.
- Mask X - Who exactly is this "Mask X" fellow?
- Alice - An ugly bitch who built her partner Ape III because she has no friends.
- Ape III - A soulless robot who obeys her partner Alice. Also, he cheats by using a magnet to help him out.
- Frank Jr. - He's the son of Frankenstein who's a master at arm wrestling, even though he cheats by saying "Wait!" and holding his opposite hand up with "Wait!" tattooed on it. That could mean that he's either going to blow fire from his mouth, or he'll do a huuuuuuuuuuuuge push to help him out.
- The Challenger - He's the protagonist (LOLWUT?!) in Arm Wrestling (as well as the arcade's version of both Punch-Out!! and Super Punch-Out!!). He likes saying weird stuff while arm wrestling such as "Yak-a-bong!", "Getchabong!", and "Frap-a-go!" He strives for money and when he wins, he sometimes says "Wow, Yahoo-Yahoo!!"
- The Organizer/Ringmaster - He created this arm wrestling organization and he's here to let you know who you're going to face-off against next. He also throw bags of money to The Challenger, which could be sooooooooooooo big that they actually appear to be invisible (I'm not joking about that at all.).
- The Sexy Chick Who Says "Ready? Go!" - She's here to begin the arm wrestling match. She can also shoot bullets from her index finger. Yep, she's indeed strange.
Usage
Sometimes used in YTPMVs and other stuff. It appears to be that out of all the installments in the series, the Wii game is used most.

Trivia
- The Bruiser Brothers (Rick & Nick) were originally planned to be in the new Punch-Out!! game for the Nintendo Wii. However, they were scrapped due to not having enough personalities to be memorable.
- Those who created Punch-Out!! for the Nintendo Wii stated that the reason why they mostly put the guys from the NES' version of Punch-Out!! on the Wii's version was because that they were a much better thing to do than create a whole bunch of new guys. Besides, it was also served as a great homage to the NES.
- There's a rip-off of this series for the Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum, and Amstrad computers entitled "Frank Bruno's (World Championship) Boxing." It's basically a watered-down, modified port of Super Punch-Out!! from the arcades. In this game, you play as some dude named Frank Bruno instead of Little Mac. There's also some guys who were rip-offs of Bear Hugger, Dragon Chan, and
Vodka DrunkenskiSoda Popinski named "The Canadian Crusher," "Fling Long Chop," and "Andra Puncheredov" respectively. - Another rip-off of the Punch-Out!! games was named "Power Punch II." Nintendo originally supervised the game made by Beam Software until they disowned it. Later on, in 1992, it would be released by American Softworks Corp. instead. It had a guy named Mark Tyler fighting against the best guys of the universe. The game sucked, but it was originally supposed to be called "Mike Tyson's Intergalactic Power Punch". However, it was changed to Power Punch II due to the rape charges that Mike Tyson had, as well as his loss to James "Buster" Douglas. Believe it or not, you could get the original game by many cartrige reproduction companies.
- All hope was not completely lost for Punch-Out!! ripoffs, for there was one for the Gameboy Advance called "Wade Hixton's Counter Punch," which was released in 2004. It involves a guy named Wady Hixton, who's car broke down one day and he must fight random people in order to get his car back in shape. Wade Hixton's Counter Punch is basically like a tribute of the Punch-Out!! series. It pushes the Gameboy Advance's graphical display to it's limits, which is definately a good sign, at least for graphic whores. However, a partial bad sign is that this game was designed by Destination Software Inc. (or DSI Games for short), who were the same guys who published the godawful M&M's Kart Racing game for the Nintendo Wii (i.e., APPROACHING SOUND BARRIER!!!). Thankfully, this game is actually good, as it has some of that great Punch-Out!! gameplay, but with some elements of its own that make it at least a little bit unique. Unfortunetly, it doesn't have enough replay value for a second playthrough, but it's still a worthy pick-up, especially if you're indeed a Punch-Out!! fan.
