Description

A game by Valve that came out in October 10, 2007 as part of The Orange Box along with Portal and Half-Life 2: Episode Two (Also including Half-Life 2 and Half-Life 2: Episode One.) for the PC, Xbox 360, and Playstation 3. It's also a separate game that you can get on your PC for free as of June 23, 2011.

The game is a class-based first-person shooter pitting two teams against each other, called the "RED" and "BLU" teams that have been fighting for whatever reason. Other then that just follow the directions to each specific gamemode and you'll do fine. Maybe.

Media Information

Gamemodes

{{#ev:youtube|VNDHhHYMiCU|320}}Some Spectator gameplay! Yeeeaaah!!!

Note: In most gamemodes, RED typically plays defense while BLU plays offense unless the two teams work towards the same objectives.

  • Capture Point (cp) - One team tries advancing up the map, capturing control points along the way, and to win they must capture all the points, or both teams try capturing each others points.
  • Team Control (tc) - Teams try to capture the others point. Like neutral CP but shorter, and there's only one default map for it.
  • Capture the Flag (ctf) - Teams try to infiltrate the opposing team's base, snatch the briefcase, and bring it back to their base. Why they do it is that the enemy "intelligence" is in them. Supposedly the briefcases contain a list of the Colonel's 11 herbs and spices, as well as the secret recipe to Coca-Cola. Though to the team's dismays each briefcase only contains a hurtful note and some paperclips.
  • Arena - Each player on a team has one life and must try to kill the opposing team or capture the center point, which opens up a minute after the chaos.
  • Deathmatch (dm) - Like Arena that lasts for half an hour, minus the middle point and with infinite respawn, typically played on incredibly unbalanced maps.
  • Payload (pl) - One team pushes a bomb cart up the track to the other team's base, where it will detonate and kill everyone in the vicinity. Oh yeah, and for some reason the bomb can heal you.
  • Payload Race (plr) - Each team pushes their cart to the other teams base. It was originally intended to be similar to Mario Kart where all the players would drive specialized vehicles with bombs strapped to the bottom, but thanks to a lawsuit by Nintendo, the concept was canned.
  • King of the Hill (koth) - The latest new gamemode, a point in the center opens up after a few minutes of battle. One team must capture it, then hold the point for a few minutes to win. If they get overrun, the opposing team can capture it, and the cycle starts over again. koth_Arlen coming soon!

Usage

It is typically Meet the Team footage that is used in poops, but many instances have surfaced of the Valve-made short, Expiration Date, being pooped as well.

Further Information

  • To help promote the game, VALVe made a series of videos known as Meet the Team, each video featuring one of nine playable classes. The videos for the Heavy, Demoman, Soldier and Engineer were released before the game was, with videos for the Scout, Sniper, Spy, Medic, and Pyro being released later.
  • Only those who own this game on the PC will receive any of the new maps, weapons and bug fixes, as the fucks at EA (Who own publishing rights to the console versions of Valve games) are too busy shelling out their latest installment of some sports game.
  • After the lengthy Meet the Spy video was released onto the Internet in May 2009, a large range of poopers ranging from the obscure to the well-known began pooping it. This was met with much criticism from some people on the forums, who believed that it was to run dry extremely quickly. (But that's because everyone there thinks everything popular and humour-related is a fad.) A similar event happened with "Meet the Sniper", as well as "Meet the Scout."
