The start of a very strange adventure

Description

Runescape is a massive multiplayer online role-playing game (or MMORPG for short) developed by Brothers Andrew and Paul Gower. It is played by almost 200 Million people from around the world. But unlike the regular RPG where you get exp for killing monsters, combat is not the only skill to raise up as they're are 24 skills to level up to 99 with the exception of Dungeoneering which goes up to level 120.

The first public version of RuneScape was released on January 4, 2001 in beta form, and in December 2001, Jagex was formed to manage the game. As the game's popularity grew, the game engine was re-written, and its beta was opened to paying players on December 1, 2003 under the name "RuneScape 2". It was renamed RuneScape upon its stable release on 29 March 2004.

The game takes place in a medieval world called Gielinor. It is divided by different kingdoms, regions, and cities. RuneScape does not follow a linear storyline; rather, players set their own goals and objectives. Players can choose to fight non-player character (NPC) monsters, complete quests, or increase their experience in the available skills. Players interact with each other through trading, chatting, or by participating in mini-games and activities. Some of them are competitive or combative in nature, while others require co-operative or collaborative play for success.

There are two ways to play: "Free To Play", which is pretty self-explanatory, and "Pay To Play", which lets you play the whole game. Free To Play still has a lot of things to do, but you can now pay by membership cards if your too lazy to pay by credit card.

It is still a pretty popular game even to this day, despite the fact it is being overshadowed by other more popular PC games like Team Fortress 2 and Minecraft.

In June 2012 Jagex anounced a new version of RuneScape called the Combat Beta which is going to be released September 2012. Not much is known about this update but what is known is that there is going to be Guns yeah guns in a medevil game, bet ya didn't see that one coming.

The combat update wasn't received well and some players are quitting because they would like too go back to 2006.
