Probably the fastest span of time a new version of Vegas came out, releasing only about 6-8 months after Vegas Pro 14, but it kinda shows. Vegas Pro 15 is still fine, it's excellent, but has almost no new features, at least, not ones that are worth mentioning. Pretty much the same thing as Vegas Pro 14 with a brand new look, but the new look could come as a negative to some. As could the lack of major new features. It was released August 28th, 2017.

Released in August 2018, this version includes motion-tracking (that is, this feature automatically syncs one object superimposed onto another certain object in the main video track) and skimming clips in the project media window allowing you to select a certain clip region you want to put in the timeline (not unlike in newer versions of [[iMovie]] or [[Final Cut]]), which can be VERY convenient. Other than that, not that big a difference for YouTube Poopers.

Meanwhile, the Platinum editions of these older versions give you 20 video tracks and 20 audio tracks. *The ability to bypass frame-blending (Resample). Right click on your clip(s) in the timeline and go to the "Switches" menu. By default it will be set to "Smart re-sample", but that's awful. What you wanna do is set it to "Disable resample". However, if you have Vegas Pro 14 and up, you can go into the Project properties and set resample mode to "Disable resample" so you don't have to do that with every new clip you add to the timeline. What disabling resample means, in layman's terms, is that now your sources won't blur up when the final video is rendered. Masks won't bleed into the next frame over and freeze frames won't blur and stutter in a strange fashion. And if you didn't disable it, the effect would be a massive detriment to your video's quality and it would be even worse if your source was in a much different framerate to that of the editing and rendering.

*The ability to bypass motion blur. Ever annoyed by how you can't actually see something moving smoothly in your final video?
 +
Where you see the track number on the timeline, over to the right you will see a button that says "Bypass motion blur". This will make each individual frame of the video seen and recognizable. With bypass motion blur it doesn't matter if your source is 12fps and if your project is 30fps. It'll be fine and in-between movements won't be hindered. This is only recommended for a source that is in good quality and was just made. If this doesn't work just right click on your clip in the timeline and go to "Switches". By default it will be set to "smart re-sample", but that's awful. What you wanna do is set it to "disable resample". However, if you have Vegas 14, you can go into the Project properties and set resample mode to "Disable resample" so you don't have to do that with every new clip you add to the timeline.

Wikipedia also has an article about Vegas Pro.

Magix Vegas Pro (formerly Sonic Foundry Vegas then Sony Vegas) is a very popular video editor used to make YouTube Poop videos. It is used by an enormous array of poopers; so many in fact that a list of community members who do not use this is smaller (usually, these people are WMM masters or Adobe Premiere users). Was originally made by Sonic Foundry under the names VideoFactory and Screenblast until Sony bought them. In 2016, the German company Magix bought Sony's creative software, and continues to make and support Vegas.

BEHOLD!

Advantages[edit]

Over Windows Movie Maker[edit]

  • Reversing
  • More visual customization. (Movie Maker can have these but it requires plugins.)
  • Audio effects (Pan, Chorus, Reverb, Pitch Shift, etc.) Various VST effects can be added to Vegas if they are compatible.
  • Program is very responsive. WMM on the other hand requires a lot of time between each edit or it will crash.
  • Generated Media
  • Lady parts

Vegas Pro 9 at work.

Over Adobe Premiere[edit]

  • Doesn't lock up or crash as much
  • Can be run on less powerful computers
  • Is much better at masking and pitch shifting
  • Easier to make Buzzloops with
{{#ev:youtube|o52goCHmrE8|320}}The fruit of Vegas' illegal little friend, the Keygen.

Differences Between Versions of Vegas[edit]

Sonic Foundry Vegas 1[edit]

  • Audio only editor.
  • Will accept mov's and avi's but does not allow editing of them.

Sonic Foundry Vegas Video 2[edit]

  • Video and Audio editing.
  • Accepts GIF,MOV,JPG,PNG,WAV,MP3,Uncompressed AVI.
  • Hard to use but not impossible.

Sonic Foundry Vegas Video 3[edit]

  • First Vegas to accept WMV.
  • NO REVERSE OR MASKING.
  • Still doesn't support many files

Sony Vegas 4[edit]

  • FIRST Vegas ever branded as a SONY product.
  • Accepts a pretty wide array of formats.
  • NO REVERSE OR MASKING.
  • GREAT for slow computers and simplistic poopers who don't use reverse much.

Sony Vegas 5[edit]

  • A widely used Editor for poops in the early days.
  • Fantastic for slow computers.
  • Accepts all basic formats
  • First Vegas to have Reversing and Masking.
  • Great for custom effects as it is the MOST STABLE of all Vegas products.
  • Accepts a wide variety of custom VST's and video effects (Wax, NewBlueFX, Boris, etc.)
  • The cast of ABC's Nightline use this version of Vegas
  • First version of Vegas to accept importing and editing of MP4s. And works very respectably. It can't render in MP4s tho.

Sony Vegas 6[edit]

  • A dud of the above bunch.
  • A bit of custom effect support is gone.
  • Not terrible just nothing special.
  • LAST Vegas to support Wax 2.0 effects.
  • Accepts MP4s, but support has been massively dropped. It will only play the audio of the first file you dropped in there, no matter what you use afterwards and performance on the visuals side is very, very damn flaky. Sometimes it'll work, sometimes it'll constantly glitch with a green mess of blocks. Not to mention that even if it does work correctly, performance is very very slow. Like, 5fps slow. Even on machines that can play 1080p60 MP4s in the newest Vegas with no problems.

Sony Vegas 7[edit]

  • One of the most popular Vegases for YouTube Poops.
  • Praised for being the first Vegas to feature the option to put the timeline ON THE BOTTOM as opposed to the top for a more familiar interface.
  • Its features are akin to Vegas 6 however still accepts some custom effects.
  • Hardly any AVI Support.
  • MP4 support is back in business. Still a little weird with 720p/1080p ones, but that's it really. However, SD widescreen resolutions are A-okay.
  • Works on just about anything. For example, mapo used an old Windows XP laptop with Vegas 7 and the thing actually handled it better than it did web browsing.

Sony Vegas Pro 8[edit]

  • First Vegas to obtain the name Pro.
  • Everything 7 was and MORE.
  • Accepts way more custom effects (Probably as much as 5)
  • Very stable, Powerful as hell.
  • Adds a few more stock effects to the list.
  • Moderate AVI Support.
  • Timeline is on the bottom by default, but this and every version of Vegas forwards allows the option to put the timeline on top.
  • Uses more system resources than 7 and under. 2ghz or up Dual Core CPU recommended. If you have the computer to run it and you want a Vegas that does EVERYTHING, 8 is the way to go.
  • First Vegas to offer a built in YouTube uploader.

Sony Vegas Pro 9[edit]

  • Accepts more AVI's than 8 and 7 and has a few more stock effects.
  • Has a new color scheme for the layout.
  • New advanced stretching feature that makes stretched out audio files sound better and more organic.
  • 9 pro is resource hog, glitchy, crashes constantly, runs a shitload of programs along with it when it comes on that slow your computer to a crawl. Fast computer recommended.
  • Now includes Slip, slide and other editing tools via Keyboard shortcuts. Make sure to hold the keys while using the edit tool normally (Ctrl = Time Stretch, Ctrl+Alt = Slide tool, Alt = Slip tool, Alt+Shift = Slip the right-hand side of the block)

Sony Vegas Pro 10a and 10e[edit]

  • Vegas 10a is quite possibly the WORST Vegas ever made. Buggy, crashes more.
  • AVI support is lower or maybe it just keeps crashing.
  • Higher system requirements.
  • Has a few more effects but good luck trying to use them. Luckily they're on 11 too.
  • 10a was the first build and was pretty much unusable. A few months later Sony released 10e which was supposed to fix many of the bugs and some report it is more stable than 10a.
  • First Vegas to offer GPU Rendering HOWEVER it only worked on Sony's AVC format and even then it barely ever worked and only works on the newest graphics cards.
  • Only recommended if you want Vegas 11's effects and use Windows XP.

Sony Vegas Pro 11[edit]

  • Fixes EVERYTHING Sony broke on 10.
  • AVI support has risen.
  • GPU rendering now works on everything. It now offers GPU ACCELERATION for the whole editor making Vegas 11 the fastest and most versatile Vegas of all right out of the box.
  • Has all the effects 10 had only now THEY WORK.
  • Some of the newer effects have new redesigned windows to adjust the effects which are cool.
  • Offers a new Generated Text effect which gives you WAY more customization for your text. Works wonders.
  • HOWEVER. this awesomeness all comes at a price. Fast computer with a hot dual core or a slow quad core and THE NEWEST GPU POSSIBLE recommended.
  • WORKS IN WINDOWS 7 AND UP ONLY.

Sony Vegas Pro 12[edit]

  • Vegas can now convert veg files to/from other project files from Adobe Premiere CS6, After Effects CS6, Final Cut Pro 7, AvidProTools 10, and DaVinci Resolve 8.
  • Improved masking tools and the ability to mask effects.
  • Docking panels vertically.
  • They added bigger icons around video tracks so you can fade, stretch, and modify tracks easier in the timeline (actually does help).
  • Even more improved GPU Acceleration, which makes everything seems to run smooth and seamless.
  • It doesn't take a degree from NASA to crack. There's a ONE CLICK PATCH for it that does all that complicated shit for you.
  • ONLY WORKS WITH 64 BIT VERSIONS OF WINDOWS 7 AND UP. Sorry again Windows XP guys, but I'm afraid it's finally dead.

Sony Vegas Pro 13[edit]

  • Vegas can now be controlled from a mobile device on either Android and iOS.
  • Can now save old Vegas for compatibility on older versions.
  • More effects!
  • Slipping, sliding and ripple edit tools are now in a drop down as well as being accessible via keyboard shortcuts
  • Last version of Vegas Pro to be made by Sony.

Magix Vegas Pro 14[edit]

On May 20th 2016, a German company under the name of "Magix" bought everything that isn't Sony Catalyst from Sony Creative Software which included Vegas. (Which kinda makes the title of this page redundant). Vegas Pro 14 was released on September 20th 2016. And there was a crack made within a day or 2. There are cracks available in YouChew's Media Library.

  • The software is just a little faster, less buggy and more stable, there's improvements in the Rendering engine and is real easy to crack.
  • Hover scrub, which means you can hover over footage on the Trimmer and see a preview as you hover a clip so you can easily add in and out points on the fly.
  • An increased limit on velocity envelopes.
  • You can disable resample PROJECT-WIDE, meaning you can make the project Auto-disable resample with every clip added to the timeline.
  • NewBlueFX, NewBlue Titler Pro 3 and BCC Come Pre-installed if you bought Vegas Pro 14 Suite. (The most expensive version of Vegas Pro).

Nothing dramatic. Not really worth a jump from Vegas 11-13. Better suited to first time Vegas Users or people jumping from Vegas Pro 10 or earlier.

Movie Studio/Platinum[edit]

  • These are the Vegas you'll find at any office supply store or Best Buy and they normally run anywhere to $40 to $120 depending on their features.

Originally called "Sonic Foundry VideoFactory," and then "Screenblast Movie Studio." With version 4, it became "Sony Vegas Movie Studio," and with version 14 it became "Magix Vegas Movie Studio."

The Good?

  • Provides tutorials and online help, offers an "Upload straight to YouTube" button with the basic presets.
  • Basically everything pro versions have but dumbed down for home users including descriptions of most functions right under things.
  • Good for some one just learning Vegas.
  • Makes using the pro versions a breeze afterwards.

The Bad?

  • Only offers you 10 video tracks and 10 audio tracks (sometimes 4 in earlier versions) to work with, but the Platinum version gives you 20 video tracks and 20 audio tracks. For some one who makes simple poops this shouldn't be a problem but for tennisers and visual gag poopers it's a pain in the ass. However, the latest version, Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 14, gives you 200 video and audio tracks.
  • Doesn't include a few effects.
  • Uses its own project format instead of the usual VEG file. So, movie studio files are not compatible with Vegas Pro.
  • Lacks masking

HOWEVER, since you can buy it from a store, as long as you have enough rubies, there's no need to crack so no looking over your shoulder. At least for the 5-10

Where to Find[edit]

Vegas can be obtained legally through websites like eBay or Amazon, from Magix directly or possibly at various software retailers.

There is also the option of downloading it but, uh... That's technically piracy. (Though that doesn't stop YouChew's media library from having plenty of free downloads for it...)

Tools and Tips[edit]

If you are using Vegas for the first time you may find the software to be complicated and frustrating. Take a look at The Vegas FAQ Thread for tutorials and tips on every thing you need to know. Down below are a few things you can try for fun.

  • Go to options and turn off Quantitize to Frames. This will allow you to make stutters less than a frame. As well as making the clip buzz.
  • Importing an MP4 into Vegas 6 can result in a very nice flickering effect. This is just having fun with a glitch.
  • G Major can be done by simply duplicating a subclip into, say 4 copies, and then changing the pitch of each subclip exponentially.
  • The ability to bypass motion blur. Ever annoyed by how you can't actually see something moving smoothly in your final video?

  • Source replacement! This allows you to throw any file in place of any source that is missing. It doesn't have to be the same file and it will work error-free. Just right-click on a source you want to replace, click the "replace" button then it'll open an explorer window allowing you to pick a source to replace it with.
