The movie.

Autobots wage their battle to destroy the evil forces of the Decepticons.

Detailed Information[edit]

The first entry in the Transformers franchise and by far the most famous. It is no surprise that the G1 cartoon (originally created to advertise some toys Hasbro acquired from the Japanese toy company Takara) is the version of Transformers that is most often used in poop. Though the G1 universe is much broader and has continued to the present day in some form, includes other series such as the comics, some Japanese-only anime, and the Beast era, this article will mainly discuss the original American cartoon.

It revolves around these robots in disguise, see? And they turn into stuff like dinosaurs and vehicles. Cool, right? Definitely more than meets the eye. They came from the planet Cybertron but due to a fuel shortage had to make a trip only for the Autobots to be ambushed by their enemies, the Decepticons, crash-landing on Earth four million years later and deciding, "Eh, why not. Let's stay here!" and continuing their war on Earth.

That's the basic plot of the first two seasons. Then there's the movie, infamous for killing off a bunch of characters while introducing new ones (despite this, it is universally beloved by the fanbase), the third season, in which we get strange adventures in outer space with a new cast of toys to sell characters, and the fourth season (which is really three episodes) is pretty much a big advertisement for the 1987 assortment.

Yep.

  • Season 1 has 16 episodes
  • Season 2 has 49 episodes
  • Season 3 has 30 episodes
  • Season 4 consists solely of a three-part episode.

"Season 5" also exists, but it's just reruns of old episodes bookended by clips of Powermaster Optimus Prime (the greatest leader of his time!) telling stories to some kid named Tommy Kennedy. And it's really, really hard to find.

Usage[edit]

Further information[edit]

  • Some fans are obsessed with G1 to the point of outright rejecting anything else. They're known as "GEEWUN" fans.
  • In Japan, the Robots in Disguise show is part of G1. However, the English version of Robots in Disguise is its own universe! Crazy, huh?
  • The show is actually called "The Transformers", but nobody remembers "the".
  • The G1 versions of Optimus Prime and Megatron appeared in the GameCube fighting game DreamMix TV: World Fighters, which also included Solid Snake, Simon Belmont and Bomberman (among others) in its playable roster.
  • Vince DiCola, who composed the score for The Transformers: The Movie, also worked on the score for Rocky IV. In fact, the song used for representing Unicron was also used for representing Ivan Drago, who was Rocky's enemy at the time.
  • Was once parodied by Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt. The result was a huge wankfest for Transformer nerds everywhere, who declared the show "the greatest anime ever".
