Beans
Beans are small things that can be eated or planted depending on the type of person. It is also a line that Robotnik said in the episode Full-Tilt Tails as well as the main plot line of Mario and the Beanstalk. In fact there was even a song by Marvin Gaye called I Heard it Through the Beanvine that made it Number 1 for 26 weeks and a game called Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine. Robotnik even did a song called Smells like Chili Beans.
Beans are often found inside chili that contradicts with Sonic's claim, they are also found in other stuff. The colors are either yellow, green or brown.
The main side effect is that it can cause the person to fart if eaten, doctors calls this the gurgling of the stomach. So far the only known person who suffered this was Makoto Kino.
