In the Anime

Pikachu is Ash's first (and favorite) Pokemon who is annoying beyond comprehension of the human mind. Ash is so completely stupid NOT to let him evolve to Raichu. Raichu is far less annoying and can beat the shit out of Pikachu any day.

For some silly reason, Team Rocket spends their life attempting to capture Pikachu, especially Ash's Pikachu in Particular, often in the form of cliche traps such as pits in the ground or even as far as giant robots. In the end of every episode, Pikachu is still at Ash's side and the cycle starts all over the next episode.

In the Games

Sprite from Pokemon Diamond and Pearl

Pikachu is #25 in the National Pokédex and is apparently so weak that Oak can catch it without battle. In Pokemon Yellow, you can talk to it, and it will tell you how it feels about you. He probably hates you. In "Hey You, Pikachu!" you can swear at Pikachu and call him bad names to piss him off. Hilarious. It evolves into a Raichu with a Thunder Stone.
