History
This star first originated when Bowser found out that the Castle was chock full of them. The stars were behind the paintings, and taking them away causes the paintings to lose their solid-ty, meaning that you can go inside them. The Toads happened to be adjusting them, and they got sucked in. Of course, Mario, being the hero that he is, retrived the Power Stars.
Next, a fatass luma named Luba promised Mario his ship, because it also runs on power stars, too. The Power Star is the hero counterpart of the Dark Star.
