Darth Vader, a.k.a., Anakin Skywalker was supposed to lead the Jedi to defeat the Sith, but he ended up siding with the Sith and he almost defeated the Jedi.

Death

When Luke found a way in the secnod Death Star, Darth Vader decided to have another battle against him. However, his fight was interrupted by his master, Darth Sidious. Darth Sidious wanted Luke to join his side, but he refused. When Darth Vader found out that he was lied to all this time, he decided to throw Darth Sidious into The Pit, where he would never harm a Jedi Knight ever again. When Luke noticed this act, he had a good type of conversation with him. After that, Darth Vader told Luke to take off his cool mask. When he did that, he told him that he was right all along and he wanted to destroy his second Death Star. So in the end, he decided to stay in his ship, repent for all his sins, and let Luke out of the Death Star so that he could blow it up.
