Description
Robots that transform into animals battle on prehistoric Earth. A subset of Transformers. The show is called Beasties in Canada because YTV (the channel airing the show) didn't want to have a show with "war" in the title. There was a sequel called Beast Machines.
Even though fans initially complained at the premise of Transformers going from robots to animals instead of vehicles, Beast Wars is held in very high regard nowadays and is considered one of the best pieces of Transformers fiction.
