Description[edit]

Robots that transform into animals battle on prehistoric Earth. A subset of Transformers. The show is called Beasties in Canada because YTV (the channel airing the show) didn't want to have a show with "war" in the title. There was a sequel series called Beast Machines, and filler anime called Beast Wars II and Beast Wars Neo.

Even though fans initially complained at the premise of Transformers going from robots to animals instead of vehicles, Beast Wars is held in very high regard nowadays and is considered one of the best pieces of Transformers fiction.

Despite the sometimes-dark storylines, the series received a Japanese dub that attempted to work it into a comedy show. (For example, Rattrap would break the fourth wall, and Silverbolt would overuse the word "desu".)
