Batman: The Animated Series was an animated series produced by Warner Bros. that was the first of a series of cartoons they produced labeled as taking place in the DC Animated Universe. As the title suggests, the series was based off of the popular DC Comics character Batman. Originally airing for 65 episodes in its first two seasons on FOX in 1992, an additional 20 episodes were produced in 1994 under the title The Adventures of Batman and Robin.
It then returned to production in 1997, this time on Kids' WB! as The New Batman Adventures. Airing in a hour-length (and sometimes hour-and-half-length) spot with Superman: The Animated Series, The New Batman Adventures is actually considered a different series that serves as a sequel to Batman: The Animated Series, and as such has a different animation style (especially noticeable with the Joker's eyes and Catwoman's appearance) and a couple of changes that were explained in the comic book series based on the show. Regardless, all 24 episodes of The New Batman Adventures are included along with the original series' 85 episodes in the Batman: The Animated Series rerun rotation, and its DVD box set is labeled as the original show's fourth volume.
Since then, it has been shown in reruns on Cartoon Network and Boomerang. These days, however, despite the fact that all 109 episodes are available on DVD and some of them can also be viewed on In2TV, the reruns can now be found on Toon Disney, because that channel has become so desperate for ratings that they have to garner rerun rights from even their arch-competitors.
