Super Smash Bros. Brawl is a sequel to Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. 64, and a predecessor to Super Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS. This game includes the Nintendo All Star characters. It is the first Super Smash Bros game to include third party characters, for example, Solid Snake from the Metal Gear series, and Sonic the Hedgehog. Several characters from the previous title were cut for example: Roy and Mewtwo, who were replaced by other characters from their respective series.

This version of the game added the controversial mechanic of tripping.

Grabbing was also changed for Brawl, leading to complaints regarding Marth and Meta Knight's grabbing control. Characters could grab almost as instantly as they let a character go, leading to virtually inescapable damage chains for the character being grabbed. This problem was fixed in the Wii U version; Meta Knight is consequently banned, however, from many Brawl tournaments.

Brawl features a unique story mode with cutscenes in the Subspace Emissary. After players uploaded many of these cutscenes to the internet, the developers decided to abandon their use in future installments. These cutscenes have often been used in YouTube poop.

Characters Who Didn't Make It In

Among the most notable absences were Mewtwo (replaced by Lucario), Roy (replayed by Ike), and Dr. Mario.

Due to enthusiastic hacking, however, there are hacks that allow one to "play" as additional characters. Apparently, some of the folks at Youchew wished for the following additions:

• It is also known for its GameFAQs board, which, at one point, had new posts literally every single minute and was jam-packed with fad topics of its own. Nice try, Daniel.
• Theres a fan made version of this game called Smash Bros. Lawl (yes, without the Super), featuring many famous YTP characters, made by chincherrinas. There is also another version made by YTPguy17, and someone going by DemicStudios is planning to make it into an actual game.
• In the the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS release, Mega Man, Little Mac and Pac-Man are playable characters.
• Mario's finishing move was orignally going to be Mario getting really fat, and causing other players to fly of the screen, similar to Jigglypuff's Final Smash.
• There was originally going to be an extra fight arena, called The Pit. Source vary...
• There are rumors of an abandoned Hotel Mario stage.
